THIRD WEEK READING MARATHON 2019

THE CHILDREN OF LIR

Long ago there was a king called Lir. He lived in a castle with his wife and four beautiful children Fionnula, Aodh, Conn and Fiachra. Lir’s wife died and they all missed her very much. The king saw that his children were very sad and needed a mother, so he decided to marry again. Dearg, the High King, sent Aoife, his daughter, to be Lir’s new wife. Aoife was beautiful but she was not the kind-hearted person that Lir thought she was. At first Aoife loved the children, but soon she started to grow jealous of them. She knew that Lir loved them more that he loved her. She wanted the kings love all for herself so she planned to get rid of the children.

One summers day Aoife took the children to swim in Lough Derravaragh, when the children were playing Aoife took out a Druid’s magic wand and she cast a terrible spell on them. There was a flash of light and the children vanished. In there place was left four beautiful swans with feathers as white as snow. One of the swans opened its beak and spoke with Fionnula’s voice: “What have you done to us?”

Aoife cackled “I have put a spell on you. You will be swans for nine hundred years. You will spend three hundred years on this lake, three hundred on the Sea of Moyle and three hundred on the waters of Inish Glora. Only the sound of Christian church bell can break the spell”

When the children did not return home that evening, the king went to look for them beside the lake. But all he saw were four beautiful swans. To his amazement one of the swans call out. It was Fionnula. She told him what Aoife had done to them. Lir returned to his castle and pleaded with Aoife to reverse the spell, but Aoife refused. Lir became very angry and banished her from his kingdom. Lir spend all his time beside the lake talking to his children and listening to their singing. When Lir grew old and died the children were very sad. 

After three hundred years had passed they moved to the sea of Moyle between Ireland and Scotland. It was very cold and stormy on the sea. When the time came they flew to Inis Glora, by now the swans had grown old and tired. Life was easier on the island, it was warmer and there was lots of food. Then one morning they heard the sound they had been waiting for. It was the sound of a Christian church bell. They swam to shore. Outside the church where the bells were ringing was a monk named Caomhog. He was stunned when he saw the four swans turn into four old people in front of him. Fionnuala put her arms around her brothers, they were so happy to be human again. They were now 900 years old. Caomhog listened to their sad story and baptised them, soon after they died of old age. He buried them in one grave. That he dreamt that he saw four children flying up through the clouds. He knew that the children of Lir were now with their father and mother.

COMENTARIO DE "EL CEMENTERIO DE LOS INGLESES"

Vamos a iniciar esta sección con una lectura obligatoria de 1º ESO, continuaremos con otras lecturas seleccionadas por el alumnado de este curso.

Este apartado forma parte de un intento de fomentar  el gusto por la lectura entre el alumnado de nuestro centro y como actividad dinamizadora de la biblioteca. 

El alumnado que desee participar en esta iniciativa debe enviar su comentario al correo de la biblioteca (biblioteca@iesestrella.org). Una vez revisado por el equipo de biblioteca se subirá al blog.

            La historia comienza con Pablo, que tiene una actitud muy tímida, lo que preocupa a sus padres que lo obligan a socializar, aunque él dedica su tiempo a ir al bosque cercano al cementerio para leer sus libros.

            Este cementerio se encuentra en Urgull, San Sebastián, y se le conoce como el Cementerio de los Ingleses. Es por eso por lo que, Virginia, una inglesa, acude desde su país para investigar a un antepasado suyo, Wilham Turner. Lo busca porque su abuela le contó una historia sobre su muerte, pero ella cree que esa historia no era real, especialmente su final. Pablo y Virginia acuden en primer lugar a la biblioteca para localizar testimonios sobre Wilham Turner, pero misteriosamente faltan algunas páginas clave.

            Siguen investigando y preguntan al bibliotecario Ordizia, pero este desconoce por qué falta. Ellos elaboran un plan: se cuelan por la noche de nuevo, tras haberles contado el Ciego de las Coplas una historia.

            Descubren en un cajón del bibliotecario las páginas que faltan y consiguen abrir un arcón que contiene un diario escrito por la esposa de Turner (Corito). Finalmente, Ordizia encuentra una carta en la biblioteca que les hace conocer el verdadero misterio sobre el antepasado de Virginia.

Mi nota y opinión:

            Me ha gustado mucho esta novela de detectives, porque contiene terror e intriga. José María Mendiola ha conseguido hacer una novela para todos los públicos. Logra que en poco más de una hora de lectura se convierta en segundos rápidamente con este fantástico libro.

SEMANA DE LA LITERATURA DE TERROR

 CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS Y DIFUNTOS

El Día de Todos los Santos es una fiesta católica que se celebra en España el primer día de noviembre y gira alrededor del recuerdo de todos los santos y familiares muertos que han logrado un lugar en el cielo. La tradición en esta conmemoración consiste en visitar los cementerios, adornar con flores las tumbas, comer los dulces típicos (huesos de santos) y, en muchos lugares, se representa la obra de D. Juan Tenorio escrita por José Zorrilla en 1844, muy apropiada para estas fechas por su carácter fantástico, que entre otros elementos muestra la cercanía entre el mundo de los vivos y los muertos.

No obstante, cada año va haciéndose más patente la mayor influencia de la cultura anglosajona (norteamericana) en nuestra sociedad y hoy en día, esta fiesta se está viendo sustituida, entre los más jóvenes, por la de Halloween. Precisamente,  este año, el profesorado que participa en el programa bilingüe ha realizado esta fiesta el 31 de octubre con el alumnado de 1º y 4º .

Desde la Biblioteca, y en colaboración con el programa de Bilingüismo, se han puesto en marcha varias actividades que se han desarrollado durante los tres recreos de esta última semana de octubre (días 29,30 y 31).

Hemos adornado la biblioteca, tanto la puerta como si interior, en consonancia con la temática tratada.

        Se han expuesto los libros de terror y misterio más significativos con los que contamos en la biblioteca.

  

        Hemos celebrado el "IVº Concurso de Relatos de terror", en el que ha participado el alumnado de 1º y 2º. Con la novedad de que este año los relatos se podían escribir también en francés y en inglés. El relato ganador, O'clock, presenta diálogos en estas dos lenguas.

       

Añadir leyenda

        Las ganadoras han leído sus relatos durante los recreos en un ambiente oscuro y tenebroso como correspondía al momento.A esta lectura han asistido profesores y alumnos y a continuación se han visto cortos de terror.

3º PREMIO:  Un baño nada relajante  de Estrella Gil Gutiérrez     (1º B) 

        Todos los relatos han estado expuestos en el vestíbulo del centro junto a las catrinas realizadas por los alumnos de religión.                                        

 Las sesiones que han contado con la visita organizada del alumnado de 1º el lunes, el de 2º el martes y el alumnado de 3º,4º, FPB I y II el miércoles han terminado con la entrega de chuches, lo que fue muy bien acogido por el alumnado asistente.
